An Indian Ambush
History
13
In 1788, pioneers William Smuthers, Gilbert LeClerc, and LeClerc's wife were traveling to settle land they had bought that later became the site of Munfordville. About 4 mi. southeast of here, Indians killed the two men and took the deed as part of the booty. The land was resold before the title was found not to be clear, and after the original deed was found, building in the town resumed.
