An antebellum log cabin built on this spot predated the city of Mt. Washington, originally called Crossroads in the early 19th century. Known much later as the Bridwell Cabin, it is the city's oldest surviving structure, although in another location. The cabin had several owners prior to 1858, when Henry and Henrietta Bridwell purchased it. Their daughter Lizzy Bridwell continued to live there after their deaths until her own death in 1951. Bridwell descendants sold the cabin to the Kannapel family, who in 1952 moved it to Cherry Valley near Prospect, KY, where it still stands.
