The Cohutta-Chattahoochee Scenic Byway was designated to preserve the natural beauty along its route and contains beautiful countryside, breathtaking views, and all six intrinsic qualities recognized by the Federal Highway Administration’s National Scenic Byways Program: scenic, natural, historic, cultural, archaeological, and recreational. Along the 54-mile route, three trailhead locations were designated to highlight qualities intrinsic to each site: Fort Mountain Overlook for archaeological and scenic qualities, Prater’s Mill Site for historic and cultural qualities, and the Cohutta Fishery Center for natural and recreational qualities.
