On Memorial Day, May 30, 1922, a veterans memorial in Yuba City was dedicated to honor Sutter County service veterans who gave their lives during the Great War of 1914–1918. The original memorial was made possible through the efforts of Dr. and Mrs. J. A. Barr, C. C. Cline, H. H. Wolfskill, and Edward Von Geldren. Over time, levee reconstruction and park modifications caused the memorial to deteriorate, leaving intact only a bronze plaque on a stone wall bearing the honorees' names and a stairway on the levee side reconstructed by the United States Army Corp of Engineers. In response, the City Council of the City of Yuba City directed a restoration effort, aided by private funding from local citizens, to create a fitting memorial to those who died with honor and distinction during the Great War. In 2004, the community of Yuba City rededicated a restored veterans memorial at City Veterans Park so that the brave and heroic actions of those honored would be remembered for generations to come. The bronze plaque from the original monument bore the names Manuel F. Gomez, William S. Cannon, Herman L. Hansen, Trugva M. Bordsen, Sidney H. Lyall, Harold J. Moore, Charles S. Waller, Elmer Van Lew, William O. White, Everett K. Wisner, and Joseph M. Burns.
