The Bigfoot trap is a wooden enclosure in southern Oregon's Rogue River–Siskiyou National Forest, built in 1974 by the Eugene-based North American Wildlife Research Team after local miner Perry Lovell reported large human-like tracks near the Applegate River. Constructed as a reinforced 10-by-10-foot box under a U.S. Forest Service special use permit, it was baited for six years in an effort to catch Bigfoot or Sasquatch, but only bears entered it. Easier access later came with the construction of Applegate Dam. Abandoned in the early 1980s and left to decay, it was repaired beginning in 2006 and survives as an unusual hiking attraction and local curiosity.
