Mount Ashland is the highest peak in southern Oregon’s Siskiyou Mountains, within the Rogue River–Siskiyou National Forest. Named for the nearby city of Ashland, it stands close to the California border and belongs to the geologically diverse Klamath Mountain system. The mountain is made chiefly of granite and other intrusive igneous rocks, including diorite and granodiorite, and its peak and slopes are part of the Mount Ashland pluton, a large mass of cooled magma that forms its underlying structure. Mount Ashland is also a major recreation destination, with a ski area featuring 23 trails across 200 acres served by four lifts.
