D. C. Transit System 1540 operates on a turning loop from 11th and Monroe Streets NW south on 11th Street, east on E Street, south on 9th Street, and east on Pennsylvania Avenue, then just east of 7th Street crosses over the westbound track on Pennsylvania into its southern loop eastward along C Street, south on 6th Street, westward along Pennsylvania Avenue, and north on 9th Street. The trackwork includes the switch and crossover from Pennsylvania Avenue for this turning loop. The entire route 60 street car line draws its electricity from an underground conduit system that kept vistas in the Nation's Capital free of overhead wires, as shown by Capital Transit Company 766 passing the Peace Monument west along Pennsylvania Avenue.
