Millville Airport was dedicated in 1941 to American defense and the advancement of aviation by the Millville Flying Club and the Millville City Commission. It was known as America's First Defense Airport and was constructed for C.A.A. by U.S. Army Engineers, with C. T. Burket as city engineer and a general contractor involved in the work. Officials associated with the project included Mayor Raymond E. Goodwin, Clarence H. Reeves, Augustus M. Ladow, ex-mayor Howard Zimmerman, Russell S. Carew, Lewis R. Hogan, and ex-commissioner Newton B. Wade. Ten thousand servicemen trained at Millville from 1941 to 1945, and its fiftieth anniversary was observed on August 2, 1991, followed by its seventy-fifth anniversary on August 2, 2016.
