Glades Wildlife Refuge, or The Glades, is a 7,440-acre preserve along Delaware Bay in Newport, New Jersey, combining tidal marshes, wooded uplands, bayfront beaches, and part of a rare old-growth swamp forest. It holds a special place in New Jersey conservation history because the state’s last remaining nesting bald eagles were here in the 1970s, and the refuge helped support the species’ regional return. Its varied habitats sustain birdlife year-round, including migratory birds, black rail habitat at Turkey Point, and marsh views from the Russell Farm Trail, while bay beaches also draw spawning horseshoe crabs.
