Built in 1911, this mill crushed ore at the Hewitt Brothers Mine on Hopkins Creek and was powered by a steam engine and a pelton water wheel. Fred and Janet Miles discovered it in 1978, and members of E Clampus Vitus brought it to La Porte under the direction of A.G. Brown, Dick O’Rourke, Jim Morris, and Mary Bredemann, with help from the Soper Wheeler Company and the U.S. Forest Service. It was dedicated on July 18, 1981 to the memory of Cleve O’Rourke, an early community leader, humanitarian, and public benefactor.
