Terrible Mountain is a 2,882-foot summit in Windsor County, Vermont, the state’s 214th highest peak. Its stark name was likely bestowed by early settlers because of the difficulty of its terrain and has endured ever since. The mountain is also remembered for a fatal air crash on March 19, 1968, when a Beechcroft G18S flying from Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Springfield, Vermont, struck the mountain in fog. All seven aboard died, including two pilots and five passengers, who were executives of the Jones and Lamson Company. The wreckage was never removed and still remains on the mountain.
