Okemo Mountain in Ludlow, Vermont, is a major Green Mountains ski resort known for welcoming families and beginners while offering a large mountain, the biggest vertical drop in southern Vermont, and terrain spread almost evenly across novice, intermediate, and advanced skiing. Founded in 1955 and opened in 1956 with two Poma lifts, it expanded through lodging, grooming equipment, snowmaking, new lifts, and additional ski zones. After financial trouble in the 1970s, Tim and Dianne Mueller bought and enlarged it beginning in 1982, and Vail Resorts acquired it in 2018. Its reputation rests on extensive snowmaking and grooming, varied terrain, and four-season recreation.
