Daniel Boone's First Steps in Kentucky
History
4
Daniel Boone first visited Kentucky on a hunting trip in 1767-68. He hunted along the Clinch River before coming to the Russell Fork of the Big Sandy River. He followed the rim of Breaks Canyon through present-day Elkhorn City, then tracked 50 miles along a buffalo trace to a salt lick at modern David, Kentucky. He wintered there before following the same route home.
