Nature
Big Lake Wildlife Management Area is a 19,231-acre protected area in northeastern Louisiana spanning Franklin, Tensas, and Madison parishes. Also known as Big Lake State WMA, it is owned and managed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. The area lies south of the Tensas River National Wildlife Refuge, with the Tensas River running through parts of the property and forming portions of its eastern boundary. Its land was assembled through the Rockefeller Fund in three purchases between 1983 and 1985, when successive tracts were acquired to create the protected area in its present form.
