Buckhorn Wildlife Management Area is an 11,121-acre protected tract in northeastern Louisiana, owned by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in Tensas Parish near Newellton. Its landscape is defined by water, with six small lakes, six bayous, and about 13 miles of waterways linking it to the Tensas River and Lake Bruin. Bottomland forest and wetlands support a rich mix of trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants, creating habitat for black bears and diverse birdlife. Seasonal, resident, and nesting birds include sparrows, warblers, waterfowl, wading birds, shorebirds, and swallows, making Buckhorn an important part of Louisiana’s managed conservation lands.
