The Mrs. A. W. Gridley House in Batavia, Illinois, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1906, is a notable Prairie School residence in the Fox River valley. Set on a wooded 2.3-acre lot and called Ravine House for the wildflower ravine on its south side, it is unusually large for Wright’s houses, with about 5,100 square feet and fourteen rooms. Its low roof, broad eaves, horizontal lines, and cruciform plan reflect Prairie style principles, while its wood-and-stucco construction is unusual for a commission of this size. Many original interior materials and built-in features survive, helping preserve Wright’s integrated domestic design.
