Mount McCoy, a 1,325-foot peak at the western end of Simi Valley, is a defining visual landmark known for the white cross at its summit. The cross predates the modern town in local memory and had already become a guidepost for travelers through the valley by 1813; it also appeared on an 1858 map of Simi Valley. The current line of summit markers includes a cross erected in 1921 and a concrete replacement installed in 1941. Designated Ventura County Landmark No. 106 in 1986, the mountain also serves as a popular hiking destination with broad views across the surrounding ranges and, on clear days, to the Channel Islands and Pacific Ocean.
