Founded in 1975, the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas, is devoted to the women of the American West and honors those associated with courage, independence, and pioneering achievement. Beginning in the basement of the Deaf Smith County Library in Hereford, it moved to Fort Worth in 1994 and opened its permanent home in the Cultural District in 2002. The museum combines exhibitions, a research library, and a rare photography collection with galleries on rodeo, ranch life, and popular culture. Its Hall of Fame, with more than 200 honorees by 2013, presents a broad view of women’s roles in western history and culture.
