San Pablo Creek, Orinda’s biggest creek, flows from the Glorietta neighborhood through both sides of downtown Orinda to Wagner Ranch Nature Area and into the San Pablo Reservoir. Orinda also has many other creeks. Thirty to forty years ago, Orinda’s watershed was home to rainbow trout as well as deer, bears, raccoons, rabbits, mountain lions, fox, coyotes, frogs, salamanders, birds of all types, and plenty of fish. These creeks have historically provided habitat for abundant wildlife and contribute to Orinda’s natural beauty. Early settler C.S. Owen recalled in 1880 that fishing in San Pablo Creek was very good, with trout and salmon three feet long being caught there.
