Arts & Culture
The Maynard Buehler House in Orinda, California, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1948 for Katherine Z. “Katie” Buehler and Maynard P. Buehler, is a notable late example of his Usonian residential design. Built with steel framing, redwood panels, and concrete block, the L-shaped house features strong horizontal lines, integrated custom furnishings, and a close relationship to its landscaped setting. Its distinctive octagonal living room, daring cantilevered carport, and carefully crafted interiors reflect both Wright’s design vision and precise engineering. Set on 3.5 acres with gardens, bridges, and water features, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
