Huckleberry Botanic Regional Preserve is a 241-acre reserve in the Oakland Hills that protects a rare botanical landscape on a ridge above Oakland and Orinda. Named for the abundant California huckleberry, it preserves a relic plant association found in only limited parts of California’s coastal climate region, where suitable soils and weather have endured. The preserve supports an unusually rich native flora associated with mixed evergreen forest, montane chaparral, and woodland, including huckleberry, golden chinquapin, western leatherwood, Douglas iris, and native manzanitas. Its Huckleberry Trail passes through this sensitive habitat and connects with a wider network of East Bay open space.
