Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro, Alabama, grew from Doyle Owens’s 1970 purchase of unclaimed Trailways luggage into a distinctive retail business built on lost and unclaimed travel goods. After expanding into airline baggage in 1978, it developed partnerships with airlines nationwide and became a major attraction, drawing more than a million visitors annually to a 50,000-square-foot store. Under Bryan and Sharon Owens, the business expanded further, adding a cafe, the Museum of Found Treasures, and later an online store. Known for its changing inventory, discounted prices, odd discoveries, and donation work, it became a notable part of Scottsboro’s identity.
