The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a monument dedicated to deceased U.S. service members whose remains have not been identified. It stands in Arlington National Cemetery overlooking Washington D.C. Three unknown soldiers are buried there, one from World War I, one from World War II, and one from Korea, and no other burials in the tomb are planned. The tomb is guarded by volunteer soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Regiment, known as the Old Guard, who go through a selective and rigorous process. It is guarded 24 hours a day, 364 days a year, and is never left unguarded in honor of unidentified soldiers who died in service to the country.
