The sawmill was a two story structure that used a flutter-wheel design in which dammed water was released beneath this bridge, followed the path of the blue pavers, and turned the main drive wheel from the bottom. A series of wooden gears drove the reciprocating blade up and down, and a secondary water wheel advanced the log carriage toward the sawblade. The water was then discharged back into Hulett's Branch. Advanced for its time, the sawmill at full operation could cut up to 1500 feet of lumber per day.
