Iwetemlaykin State Heritage Site is an Oregon state park on the south edge of Joseph near Wallowa Lake, established in 2009 on 62 acres that were once part of the Nez Perce homeland. Its Nez Perce name, meaning “at the edge of the lake,” reflects that deep connection. Beside the Old Chief Joseph grave and cemetery, one of the sites of Nez Perce National Historical Park, it links public recreation with an important cultural landscape. The site is known for its walking trail, Knight’s Pond, wildlife watching, native plants, and views of the Wallowa Mountains.
