The City of Hoover grew rapidly after its incorporation in 1967 from a small four-block area west of this site. A metal shed behind Employers Ins. Co. served as the first fire station and city hall. Among the first commercial ventures were a bank, grocery, hardware store, drug store, and a shopping center.
