S'edav Va'aki in Phoenix preserves a major Hohokam settlement occupied from about AD 450 to 1450 in the Salt River valley. Centered on one of the largest known Hohokam platform mounds, the site also includes dwellings, ballcourts, and the remains of an extensive irrigation network at the headgates of several major canals. Its location helped support irrigated desert agriculture and one canal extended more than 16 miles, showing the scale of Hohokam engineering and labor. The community was abandoned around 1450, and preservation began in 1924. The site later gained national recognition, and in 2023 its O'odham name, S'edav Va'aki, was formally adopted.
