Lake W. R. Holway is a reservoir in Mayes County, Oklahoma, on the Saline Creek arm of Lake Hudson. Created in 1968 by the Grand River Dam Authority for the Salina Pumped Storage Project, it serves chiefly in peak power generation. Originally called Chimney Rock Lake, it was renamed in 1981 for consulting engineer W. R. Holway, whose work was tied to major Oklahoma water and power projects, linking the lake to the state’s broader infrastructure history. A 2009 survey recorded its size and depth, and although managed for power operations, it also supports fishing for bass, crappie, and catfish under restrictions on swimming and internal combustion engines.
