Casey County’s present seat of justice was built in 1888 and was preceded by a log building in 1809 and a brick structure in 1837. The architects for the current courthouse were the noted McDonald Bros. of Louisville. Its asymmetrical design and lavish use of stone trim by T. D. Dunhauser of Germany are unusual features among courthouses of the McDonald firm. It was listed on the Nat'l Register of Historic Places in 1977.
