Around 1882, the Hugo Dolge Residence was erected as part of a growing industrial community that also included the limestone Alfred Dolge Factory Complex, built in 1882–1883, and an octagonal band stand erected in 1884. Daniel Green and Company Factory Number 1 was erected in 1888 as a two-story horse stable, with a third floor added in 1893. The Giese Wire Company operated during the mid-1890s, with a High Falls Power Dam built in 1897 and dedicated on January 15, 1898 by the Dolgeville Electric Light and Power Company. The Little Falls and Dolgeville Railroad opened passenger service in December 1892. By the late 1890s and early 1900s, industries included Giese Wire Company, Julius Breckwoldt and Company, Brambach Piano Company, and other manufacturing concerns. A building associated with Giese Wire Company and later Julius Breckwoldt and Company was destroyed by fire in 1907. The Barrett Block was erected in 1909 with the U.S. Post Office on the corner, and North Hudson Woodcraft Corporation occupied a former factory building from 1946 to the present. The railroad's last freight train service came in July 1964.
