Ralph E. Dias, a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corps, was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam on 12 November 1969. John W. Dutko, a Private First Class in the United States Army, was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty near Ponte Rotto, Italy, on 23 May 1944. The memorial also honors all veterans of all wars from Homer City and the surrounding areas.
