The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum preserves the history and culture of the Pikes Peak region in the former El Paso County Courthouse, a granite landmark with a domed clock tower that served county government from 1903 to 1973 before becoming a museum in 1979. Its more than 60,000 objects include fine art, artifacts, archives, regional art, Van Briggle Pottery, and a nationally significant quilt collection. The holdings trace Native American histories, the founding and growth of Colorado Springs, mining, military installations, and the health resort era, while the Starsmore Center for Local History supports research with photographs, newspapers, manuscripts, and William Jackson Palmer’s papers.
