William Henry Deen, known to his friends as “Doc,” was a pioneer resident of Flagler County. Born in Bailey, Georgia, in 1873, he came to the area from Chipley, Florida, in 1906 and was a local farmer. In 1919 he built a home at 805 E. Moody Blvd. and he died in 1962 at the age of 88. His son, William Welch Deen, had a son, Billy, Jr., and a daughter, Delores. On Christmas morning in 1955, six-year-old Delores awoke to a hand-built doll house made by her Aunt Margaret Jane Deen’s stepfather, Perry Hunt, on the Hunt family farm in Orange Mills, Florida. The doll house became the setting for many tea parties with neighborhood children and with Delores’ grandfather, Doc. In 2021, Delores Deen donated the doll house to the Flagler County Historical Society for preservation.
