Spring Gulch is a free community cross-country ski area on Thompson Creek Road west of Carbondale in northwestern Pitkin County, Colorado, maintained by the nonprofit Mount Sopris Nordic Council. Its trails run through rolling gambel oak and aspen country, with higher sections opening to views of Mount Sopris and the Elk Mountains. The area shares its name with a nearby 19th- and early 20th-century coal mining townsite south of the present trails. Operated through cooperation with the North Thompson Cattlemen's Association, which uses the land for summer grazing, it closes during that season and serves as an important local Nordic venue for events and school training.
