Sunlight Ski Area, also known as Sunlight Mountain Resort, lies in the White River National Forest south of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, in a northeast-facing basin below tree line. Opened in December 1966 with one chairlift and expanded with a second in 1973, it now has three chairlifts and more than 2,010 feet of vertical drop. Its terrain ranges from beginner and cruising runs to steeper advanced lines, including the East Ridge’s three Alligator Alleys chutes. The mountain’s runs descend toward a single base area, creating a compact layout, and summit views of Mount Sopris and the Elk Mountains add to its appeal. It is also tied to Colorado racer Alice McKennis, who learned to ski there and was honored in 2018.
