Crow Canyon Archaeological District in the Dinétah region of northwestern New Mexico is a major Navajo cultural landscape and historic site. It preserves one of the largest collections of Navajo and Ancient Pueblo petroglyphs in the United States, with 44 rock-art panels on the canyon’s lower southwest walls bearing hundreds of ceremonial and symbolic images from the 16th through 18th centuries. The district also contains Navajo pueblitos and nearby remains of daily life, including hogans, sweat lodges, roof beams, and grain-storage areas. These features show repeated occupation, defensive planning, and cultural continuity during a period of conflict, colonial pressure, and resistance.
