Huérfano Mountain, also known as Huerfano Mesa and El Huerfano, is a 7,470-foot mountain in San Juan County, New Mexico, standing at the center of the Dinetah, the Navajo ancestral homeland. Called Dził Náʼoodiłii in Navajo, it is one of the six sacred mountains in Navajo tradition and one of two sacred inner mountains. Navajo origin traditions associate it with Yódí Atʼééd and Yódí Ashkii, and also as the original home of Áłtsé Hastiin and Áłtsé Asdzą́ą́. Geologically it is composed of Eocene sandstone, and the surrounding region preserves evidence of an Ancestral Puebloan smoke-and-mirror communication network linking it with Chimney Rock Pueblo and Pueblo Alto.
