Swamp Meadow Bridge in Foster, Rhode Island, spans Hemlock Brook on Central Pike and is the second covered bridge built at that site. The project began in 1986 as part of honoring Rhode Island’s 350th birthday, using donated wood and a Town lattice truss design by Jed Dixon. After state approval in 1992, volunteers built the first bridge over an existing steel bridge, and it was dedicated in 1993. Vandals destroyed it by fire later that year, but the town quickly approved a replacement. Dedicated in 1994, the present bridge combines Ithiel Town lattice trusses and wooden trunnels with modern steel stringers and concrete abutments.
