Panther Peak is a 4,714-foot mountain in New York’s Adirondack Park, in the Santanoni Range between Couchsachraga Peak and Santanoni Peak, and ranks eighteenth among the Adirondack High Peaks. Its name comes from panthers once native to the region, though before 1904 the name referred to a different mountain now called Mount Henderson. By 1904, Panther Peak had become the accepted name for the present summit, and surveyor Daniel Lynch made its earliest recorded ascent that year. Reached by unmarked trails, it is best known as part of a classic Santanoni backcountry traverse, reflecting how Adirondack geography was gradually fixed through exploration and survey.
