The Lewis Family, organized in 1951 and known as America's First of Bluegrass Gospel Music, gained worldwide recognition as an icon of bluegrass gospel music. From a modest but proud beginning in Lincoln County, the group continued for over 50 years as it began, made up entirely of family members encompassing three generations. The family hosted its own television show on WJBF-TV in Augusta for over 38 years, won numerous awards, and in 1992 was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Roy (Pop) Lewis and Pauline (Mom) Holloway married in 1925 and had seven children who performed with the family: Miggie Lewis, Wallace Lewis, Esley Lewis, Talmadge Lewis, Polly Lewis Copsey, Janis Lewis Phillips, and Little Roy Lewis. Two grandchildren, Travis Lewis and Lewis Phillips, also performed with the family.
