White Pass Ski Area, in Washington’s Cascade Range on U.S. Route 12, grew from a small ski operation that opened in January 1953 with rope tows and the Poma Face hill into a modern resort with expanded terrain, multiple chairlifts, beginner facilities, terrain parks, and a Nordic Center. Major additions included the Pigtail chairlifts, later high-speed lifts, and the large Paradise Basin expansion for the 2010–11 season. The area is also significant in American skiing through the Mahre family, as World Cup twins Phil and Steve Mahre grew up here while their father managed the mountain. New ownership since December 2021 has continued upgrades and redevelopment.
