Stanley School, named for Sherman Stanley, was a red brick school built in 1883 on Bray Road about one quarter mile from the entrance to Crossroads Village. From 1883 until 1963, it served as a school, part of a pattern in which many Michigan children attended one-room schools as late as the middle of the 20th century. Such schools typically educated all of the children in a geographic area, with students organized into several different grades and taught by the same teacher. In 1975, Stanley School was relocated to Crossroads Village, and on April 1, 1976, the first classroom of touring students learned a lesson in the one-room schoolhouse there.
