Yakima Sportsman State Park is a two hundred sixty-six-acre public recreation area on the Yakima River at the east side of Yakima, Washington. Set on river floodplain in a region known for its dry, desert character, it serves as a green oasis with shade and wildlife habitat. The park began as a project of the Yakima Valley Sportsman's Association in the early nineteen forties and was deeded to the state in nineteen forty-five, joining Washington's state park system. Today it supports camping and day use, including hiking, picnicking, fishing, and birdwatching, and remains notable for its riverside setting and floodplain environment.
