Mount Putnam, also called North Putnam Peak, is an 8,809-foot mountain summit in Idaho. It was named for Captain James E. Putnam of the 12th U.S. Infantry, who led the detachment that established the Fort Hall Military Post at Lincoln Creek in 1870. The mountain’s name connects it to the era of military expansion in southeastern Idaho and preserves the memory of the officer associated with founding that post.
