In 1865, crossing Clear Creek cost 10 cents on foot, 25 cents on horseback, and $1.25 by wagon. Bridge owner Charles Camden spent $20,000 improving the road between this place and Shasta, widening the road, building a bridge over Whiskey Creek, and improving and covering the bridge over Clear Creek. With a franchise from the state of California, he collected tolls for 50 years from travelers going between Shasta and Weaverville.
