In 1891 Brazos Investment Company dedicated these 2.5 acres as the only public cemetery in the county, except for an early slave graveyard in Clute. The deed called for use of plots without charge. The earliest grave marker dates to 1893. The cemetery is maintained by the Velasco Cemetery Association.
