Jackson County Veterans Memorial Park honors veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Panama, Grenada, Desert Storm, peacetime service, prisoners of war and those missing in action in all wars and conflicts, Lebanon peace keeping, the Persian Gulf War, operations in Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the Adriatic Sea and airspace, Turkey, Kosovo, homeland security after September 11, 2001, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq. It declares that those who were prisoners of war or missing in action are not forgotten, that September 11, 2001, and the police, firemen, EMTs, paramedics, civil service workers, and citizens of 9-1-1 will never be forgotten, and it lists by name local dead from World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict. It closes with Abraham Lincoln’s words that the honored dead shall not have died in vain and that government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth, and with a tribute to Bob Hope as a friend to the American soldier, ending with the words, All gave some - Some gave all.
