Hobart Lake National Wildlife Refuge is a 2,077-acre easement refuge in Barnes County, North Dakota, about five miles west of Valley City. Established by executive orders during the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration, it was set aside as a refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife. Managed by the Valley City Wetland Management District within the Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge Complex, it serves mainly as a migration stopover for waterfowl. Tundra swans often use the area in spring and fall, and despite much of the land being cultivated by its owner, parts of the refuge still provide nesting and brood-rearing habitat.
