Leonard J. Buck Garden is a 33-acre public botanical and woodland garden in Far Hills, New Jersey, operated by the Somerset County Park Commission and widely regarded as one of the nation’s premier rock gardens. Created in the 1930s by geologist Leonard J. Buck and landscape architect Zenon Schreiber in the glacial stream valley of Moggy Hollow, it was shaped by eye into a series of distinct garden spaces within a wooded ravine. Its woods, streams, ponds, rock outcrops, and varied microclimates support native and exotic plants, especially noted for strong spring displays. Donated after Buck’s death, it opened to the public in 1977.
