In grateful remembrance of soldiers and sailors who died that the Union might live, Asher W. Miner presented a monument to Hatch Post, 241 G.A.R., dedicated Aug. 25, 1885, and gratefully erected in behalf of the heroic dead, whose lives were freely offered upon the country's altar in its hour of need, with the ideals of fraternity, charity, and loyalty, and with words affirming that the dead should not have died in vain, that the nation under God should have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, and for the people should not perish from the earth.
